With 200 miles of cycle tracks, byways and bridleways to suit every fitness level, it’s easy to see why the Isle of Wight is named ‘Bicycle Island’. If you like riding along to beautiful sea views and spectacular countryside scenery, the Island is the perfect place to explore.
If you’re unsure of where to stay, you can pick up the legendary Round the Island cycle route from just about anywhere along the coast. Suitable for all levels and abilities, the route covers 65 miles of spectacular sea views, challenging hills and countryside meanders.
The Isle of Wight businesses listed below have been awarded the ‘Wheel of Approval’ – showing that they go above and beyond in what they offer cyclists, whether that’s safe storage for bikes, washing facilities, tool kits for riders to use or information of the best way to get there by bike!
If you’re looking for a cycle route that begins in the north of the Island, the Red Squirrel Trail will take you through 32 miles of glorious Isle of Wight countryside, woodland, farmland, estuaries and a stretch of the Island's fantastic coastline. The route begins in East Cowes, where you can disembark the Red Funnel vehicle ferry and cross the floating bridge to get to Cowes.
You can break the route into sections, taking two days to enjoy the route at a leisurely pace before resting your legs for the night. Here are some fantastic places to stay:
