Victorian Tea Rooms, Cafe and Restaurant. Providing delicious home made cakes, home made scones, traditional cream teas.  Full menu consisting of Breakfasts, which are served all day long, Sandwiches, Jacket Potatoes, Quiches, Main meals, Light bites and Ploughmans. Wherever possible we source fresh ingredients from across the island!

We specialise in homemade afternoon teas and we offer 3 types, The Victorian Classic Afternoon Tea which features timeless classics that have been adorning cake stands for generations, The Gods Providence House Speciality Afternoon Tea including our most reknowned items and The Chocaholics Afternoon Tea which is a must for chocolate lovers everywhere.  All of these Afternoon Teas are all hand made here on the premises and we are very proud of the quality of our product and we always strive to ensure customer satisfaction.  Full details of these Afternoon Teas can be found on our website.

We are a small family run business. Husband and wife, Robin and Claire Crawley, have been at the helm since 2011, we have a very loyal and well established core team, Wendy, Natalie, Emma and Clare have been with us since the word go and we are very grateful to have such great staff supporting us in our endeavours.

Gods Providence House is a grade 2* listed building. The original building on this site was built in 1524 and it functioned as a Bakery before it was destroyed by fire in 1699 when regulations put in place across the country following the Great Fire of London were not adhered to. The remnants of the building were then marked for demolition but it received a last minute reprieve and was rebuilt as a private residence in 1801. The flagstones in the foyer and our main entrance door still remain from the 1524 construction.

Our building received its name following the arrival of the Black Plague on the Isle of Wight in 1582. It was reputedly the only building where no one fell ill or died due to the plague. It was said that the inhabitants had been spared due to 'Gods Providence'.

Of course no building this old would be complete without its resident spirits, of which there are several. The more significant ones include a little girl who resides in the first floor corridors, an older lady who occupies our Ghost Room and sometimes has the company of a young Brazilian slave boy and also said to inhabit our building is a Ships Captain who's wrecked vessel's timbers were used in the 1701 rebuild!
