Experience Flights

This exclusive 60-minute Experience Flights offers a unique insight into these remarkable amphibious vessels and their operation. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the skilled pilots and crew who navigate the Solent several times a day. They will gain an understanding of the inner workings of these iconic machines and witness their impressive capabilities during a special 20-minute hovercraft demonstration including 360 degree turns and deflation of the skirt!

Tour and demonstration with the pilot
The Hovercraft Experience will include: 360 degree turns, deflating the skirt to sit on the water and demonstration of the unique manoeuvrability of hovercraft all accompanied by expert commentary from a hovercraft pilot. There will also be a guided tour by the pilot around the outside of the hovercraft whilst on land and the opportunity to take photos both onboard and outside. There are very few hovercraft pilots in the world and during these sessions they reveal what it is like to fly these craft across the Solent at speeds of up to 35 knots, just 1.5 metres above the waves. 

Experience Flights operate year round on specified dates. All experiences start at Hovertravel’s Southsea terminal, with the option to join at Ryde Terminal if preferred.

Behind the Scenes Tours

Enjoy a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with their iconic hovercrafts with the Behind the Scenes Tours. This in depth tour allows families and transport enthusiasts alike to learn more about the impressive hovercraft fleet and its operational procedures.

Discover the workings and history of a hovercraft
You will be treated to a land-based Behind-the-Scenes Tour lasting approximately 60 minutes, led by one of Hovertravel’s most experienced team members. This exclusive tour offers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a hovercraft and the history of this fascinating mode of transport. Get a comprehensive look inside and outside the hovercraft, view a historic hovercraft video, take part in a Q&A session and leave with a special certificate to commemorate your day.
