About

The Quay Arts Centre is the Isle of Wight’s leading art gallery and venue for live arts events. It is situated in a converted 19th Century brewery warehouse complex located at the head of the River Medina in the centre of Newport.

The complex was refurbished in 1997 by award winning architect Tony Fretton and is supported by The Arts Council of England and the Isle of Wight Council.
Facilities at the complex include 3 galleries, a 134 capacity theatre, a Crafts Council-listed shop and a popular café/bar with a reputation for serving some of the best home-cooked food on the Island. First class conferencing facilities are also available.

The Quay Arts Craft Shop is a changing showcase for Island and regional craft makers. At any one time more than sixty artist's work is on sale with prices from as little as £5. A large variety of craft is available including ceramics, glass, textiles, metalwork, wood and jewellery. In addition to craft, the shop stocks a wide range of greeting cards, many of which are unique to the Island with a good selection of handmade cards by Island artists. The shop also sells affordable and well-made children's gifts and pocket-money items, most having an art/craft or educational theme.

The award-winning riverside Café Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a meal, with a wide selection of daily specials, freshly prepared using the finest locally sourced produce. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten & dairy-free options are available.

The Centre’s three gallery spaces and café walls are home to an acclaimed regularly changing programme of Visual Arts. The extremely high quality work on show is sourced not only from the Island but also from mainland and international artists.

Quay Arts’ theatre is named after Anthony Minghella, the Island-born Oscar-winning director and is one of the best venues on the Island to see live performances. The programme offers theatre, comedy, music, dance, kids and literature with a cinema that shows the best in world and classic film.

Weddings - Quay Arts is a Grade II listed Victorian building with plenty of historic charm mixed with contemporary feel to provide you with a practical and alternative celebration venue. As an arts venue in the heart of Newport, we pride ourselves on providing an outlet for creativity and we welcome you to have ‘your day, your way’. We are fully licensed for weddings and civil partnership ceremonies and in the past we have hosted a range of innovative wedding receptions and private parties with various themes.

The Quay also operates an artist workshop complex, Jubilee Stores, which is home to the Classes & Workshops programme. Included in this facility are two large workspaces, a print studio and seven artist studios that are home to some of the most talented artists in the region.
