Shanklin Town Regatta

Shanklin Town Regatta is one of the highlights of the year. The event has been running annually for an astonishing 161 years and brings the whole town and its visitors together for a day jam packed with entertainment and excitement for everyone.

The fun begins at 10am with a sand castle competition. Beach sports and swimming events for all ages run throughout the day. At the pier apron you will also find stalls and games. The only break in the energetic activities allows time to crown the Regatta Queen. Festivities continue into the evening with a delicious barbeque and live music from 7 pm until a fantastic firework display lights up the sky above Shanklin. It really is quite a spectacle with the entire Esplanade and cliff path lined with excited onlookers. A programme of events, which is paid for by advertisers, is sold around the town in the weeks leading up to the event to raise money to keep it going, hopefully for at least another 161 years.

The event is made possible by a very hard working volunteer Regatta Committee who are supported on the day by Shanklin Rotary Club, Shanklin Rowing Club and the Longshoreman who allows his beach to be used for the events. Local businesses and associations also get involved with sponsorship for the event which brings the whole town out for a full day of fun and games.
