The Isle of Wight is known as ‘Dinosaur Island’ as it is the richest place in the UK for dinosaur remains. There’s plenty to see and visit such as the Dinosaur museums and animal parks, plus over 120 attractions and places of interest to explore, including country walks, beautiful beaches, The Needles and Alum Bay, Osborne House, Blackgang Chine Land of Imagination, and much more. Half the island is designated an Isle of Wight National Landscape (formerly known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
There is an excellent bus transport system on the island and you can catch buses from the Isle of Wight Zoo frequently running into Sandown and Newport. Sandown and Shanklin award-winning beaches are only 3 miles from the campsite and both share the same sheltered bay with its sandy beaches and safe bathing, perfect for families. Newchurch village is only five minutes on foot from the campsite, there you’ll find a pretty Norman Church as well as a pleasant country inn serving fresh, hearty food.
Also a short distance from the campsite is The Garlic Farm, a free to enter family attraction providing the full garlic experience! Apart from having its own restaurant and farm shop, it is said to make the best coffee on the island.
