Thankfully, gone are the days when requests for vegan options in a restaurant, pub or cafe were met with a blank look (at best!).
Our island offers a huge range of options if you follow a plant-based diet. Many are based on our island’s superb local produce, so helping the planet by reducing food miles.
Whether it is just alternative milks at a coffee shop, a delicious plant-based ice cream or a full-on vegan restaurant, those of us who choose not to eat meat or other animal products are well catered for.
If you are in Sandown then The Bay Vegan Deli and Coffee House is a dedicated vegan restaurant offering some mouth-watering plant-based dishes from around the world. It has a sunny courtyard garden if you fancy eating outdoors.
And popular restaurant Cantina in Ventnor has some really scrummy sounding vegan options on its breakfast and dinner menus.
Over in Yarmouth, Off The Rails is a popular restaurant housed in the old town train station and it prides itself on offering great vegan choices.
Also in the West Wight, The Piano Café has almond buttered toast for breakfast and smoked seasoned tofu among its choices.
If you are visiting Ryde, pop into No.64, which specialises in amazing day-starting vegan breakfasts and lunches.
If you are staying in self-catered accommodation, then there are some great farm shops selling delicious Isle of Wight vegetables.
Check out Harvey Brown’s at Arreton, Bembridge’s The Farm Shop & No. 8 Café and The Garlic Farm at Newchurch, which has gained tons of national and international publicity for its “stinking rose” produce.
Check out the many other places that provide vegan options below...
