The multi-award winning Isle of Wight Walking Festival will take place on the Island during Autumn 2024, celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The Autumn Walking Festival will be from Saturday 5th October to Sunday 13th October. Once again local and passionate Walk Leaders will share with you their favourite seasonal routes, special viewpoints and hidden gems. There will be lots of walks for every ability - there’s something on offer for everyone.
Walking festivals are a great way to enjoy the great outdoors and see parts of the Island you can only explore by foot. Whether you enjoy a light stroll, are looking for your next heart-racing challenge or simply after a new destination to discover, take inspiration from the locals’ sharing their favourite routes.
Whether you enjoy a stroll along the flat with a pit-stop at the pub, a jaunt through the countryside with your four-legged friend or like to test your mettle against leg burning inclines (of which the Island has many), the IW Walking Festival offers something for everyone.
Over 50% of the Isle of Wight is recognised as an Isle of Wight National Landscape (formerly known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is one of few places in the UK to gain UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status for its unspoiled landscape, clear waters and thriving wildlife and spectacular views. Add over 500 miles of well-maintained and signposted footpaths and you'll see why the Isle of Wight is the perfect place for a walking festival. The majority of the IW Walking Festival walks are free or there is a small donation to charity or charge requested.
The first 60 Autumn walks were released early August, and now more walks have been added to the line-up, taking it to over 95 bookable walks this season.
New routes for 2024 include the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary’s Culver Down Circular (5-miles), the 4-mile stroll around Yarmouth & through Mill Copse by Wight Nature Fund and short walking and talking tours around the Island's Garlic Farm.
Get the heart rate going with the 18-mile North to South trek, from Egypt Point in Cowes to St Catherine's Lighthouse, hosted by IOW Ramblers Chairman, David Yates or the 12-mile Colwell Loop. Or the 8-mile From Culver to Bembridge and back again, the Three Peaks of West Wight (7-miles) and Historic Carisbrooke to Newport Minster (5-miles) all offer good mid-range options. For something more leisurely, take a stroll along Cowes Seafront with MP for the Isle of Wight West, Richard Quigley, join The History of Appley Tower walk where you can discover more about the Island’s iconic landmark or roam the grounds of Quarr Abbey Ruins, with an expert guide.
Pop into Brading Roman Villa to pick up a map for their self-guided family friendly circular nature trail or head to the beach with Planet Aware in search of the elusive nurdle. For the wildlife enthusiasts, Dave Fairlamb of Natural Links returns with his Harbour & Marshes Nature Walk and Nettlecombe Farm also bring back their popular family friendly animal feeding walk.
There are a variety of walks to book from anniversary celebration walks to themed strolls. Choose your perfect walk here.
However long you’re planning to stay for your walking holiday on the Isle of Wight, we have the ideal accommodation. If you are looking for a bit of luxury to rest your weary feet at the end of the day, choose from one of our many stylish hotels or a home away from home B&Bs.

The Isle of Wight also offers plenty of great places to eat and drink. From pubs and restaurants to ice cream stalls and cafes serving tasty local produce, your only problem will be deciding where to stop along the way!
