Just five minutes drive from central Ryde, Carters Stables is nestled in the idyllic surrounding countryside. Whether you plan to have a quiet holiday to yourself or want to get stuck into everything Carters Stables offers - you are so very welcome and we hope you enjoy staying here as much as we love our little slice of island!

Originally built in 1905, Carters Stables was attached to the long-gone Carters (or 'Upton') Manor, as stabling for their horses, accommodation for their stablehands and storage for their coaches. At some point, it was abandoned and fell into disrepair - until 50 years ago when our family bought it and started to rebuild it, turning it into a 3-acre family smallholding that’s currently home to four generations of family.

2023 marked Year 0 of our long-term revival plan for Carters Stables, which includes creating new spaces for skillsharing and creativity - including a fully-licensed milking parlour & dairy, workshop and retreat space, monastic cell garden & bee glade.

Carters Stables is home to a menagerie of animals including chickens, ducks, pigs, goats, horses and our gorgeous dairy cow and her calf, Nettie & Hazel. Guests are invited to get as involved as they like with the farm - just let us know in advance!
