Solent Cottage - Fort Victoria

Just a few minutes walk along the coast from the pretty harbour town of Yarmouth lies the three-bedroom Solent Cottage, one of a handful of coastal properties built in the Victorian era to serve as quarters for married officers stationed at the nearby military fort. Solent Cottage is now as packed with character, rural charm and sea side tranquility as it is with historical significance, and serves as a wonderful base for families and friends to explore this magical and adventure-packed corner of the Island.

The master bedroom has amazing views over the Solent, and like the rest of the cottage has the original Victorian floor boards. The other two bedrooms face the woodlands at the rear; both are singles, but the larger one can be made into a twin room to accommodate two children (but not two adults). The cottage can accommodate five, but only if there are at least two children in the group. Otherwise the maximum occupancy is four.

The sitting room also has a large window with spectacular views of the sea, across the communal green, where rabbits play in the morning and children in the early evening. The cottage has two private gardens: one on the sea side which backs onto the large shared green, and one at the back which benefits from sunshine in the morning and early afternoon. The back garden has a gate which opens directly onto an extensive network of woodland paths within a managed nature reserve, which weave to and from the beach.

Right next door to the cottage is what remains of Fort Victoria, which is now a tourism venue hosting a planetarium, a reptilarium and an “imaginarium”, among other things. There is a cot and highchair on request, and larger groups can be accommodated together with our other cottages next door.

Sorry but we don’t accept pets at Solent Cottage.
