About
We have owned Driftwood Cottage just over a year now and have fallen in love with the cottage and surroundings. Our cottage is on the south west coast of the Isle of Wight which is an Isle of Wight National Landscape (formerly known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). It is in a more rural area of the island which we love but also so close to all the great attractions the island has to offer.
You can view the sea from the kitchen window and master bedroom balcony which is amazing and within a few minutes walk be on the beach!
From the lounge diner you have super country or sea views. We cater for all your home from home comforts with a smart TV, Dvd, Stereo and WIFI. There are lots of books, dvds and games to keep you busy on the ‘odd’ rainy day!
The Kitchen is fully equipped with a Microwave, Oven/hob, Fridge, Freezer, Washing machine and Dishwasher. The cupboard just right above the sink has all equipment manuals and also spare bulbs, basic first aid pack and other handy bits and bobs!
Downstairs there is a double bedroom and separate bathroom, with an over the bath shower. This is perfect for people with disabilities or larger families. The master bedroom is upstairs along with the third twin bedroom. The master bedroom is ensuite with a shower and there is ample cupboard and hanging wardrobe space.
The cottage sleeps 6+1 as the Master bedroom also has a single futon pullout bed, ideal for a child to sleep on. We can also provide a travel cot and highchair. Bedlinen and towels are provided.
We are dog friendly, but ask them to be well behaved and house trained! Please keep them downstairs and off the furniture. We accept a maximum of 2 dogs and extra charges apply.
We have a large furnished patio which is great for alfresco dining of an evening as you sit and enjoy the rural views!!! The Cottage also has a couple of parking spots just a few steps from the back door.
We have not long redecorated the cottage and hope our guests enjoy it as much as we do!
Driftwood is situated in a pretty courtyard of five cottages and from the rear of the cottage you have fantastic rural country views. Around 15 minutes walk along the public footpath to the side of the cottages brings you to Brighstone village. Here you can stock up from the village shop. It also has a pub that serves great food and small museum and church. The village is very pretty and well worth the walk! There is also a farm shop within few minutes walk from the cottage and a reliable bus service too. There is a large Co-Op in Freshwater.
The whole area is great for walking and the nearby coastal path extending eastwards to Niton or to The Needles on the western tip of the island. There are also some very good cycle routes and the Tennyson Trail which links The Needles with Carisbrooke Castle, close to the centre of the Isle of Wight. Just a few minutes drive following the coastal road Surfing can be enjoyed at Compton Bay and this is also a renowned area for fossils. Further along you come to Freshwater and The Needles, around a 15 minute drive. From Freshwater there is also a good walk following the footpath inland across into Yarmouth.
Nearby places to visit include The Needles and Tennyson Monument, National Trust gardens of Mottistone, Blackgang Adventure Park & Yarmouth Castle. The sports centre at Freshwater has a swimming pool and fitness room and there is golf at the nearby Freshwater Bay Golf Club.
Recently we have dined at the The Hut in Colwell bay. It gets quite busy so booking is essential but its a great restaurant right on the sea edge with a very good fish menu! The Wight Mouse in Chale is very good too and do a fab Sunday Roast!!
Enjoy! ;)
