Brading Roman Villa will be hosting several activities to tie in with the Festival of Archaeology, an annual festival coordinated by the Council for British Archaeology.
On Saturday the 20th of July they will have family archaeology, get hands on with the tools of the trade brushes and trowels and see what you can find. This is a free activity. They will have weaving demonstrations all day, the Big Dig Exhibition in the morning and in the afternoon Adrian Green the Director of Salisbury Museum will be joining them for a talk about The Archaeology of Wessex. Find out about Salisbury Museum’s nationally important archaeology collection. This includes finds from Stonehenge and the surrounding landscape, as well as the collections of General Pitt-Rivers, one of the founding fathers of modern archaeology. The museum also holds the Amesbury Archer – one of the most important prehistoric burials found in Britain. The Brading Roman Villa free Nature Trail will be open. The trail takes advantage of the wonderful location around the perimeter of Brading Roman Villa. You will see outstanding views at the information points. Follow the trail and explore ancient countryside, the local wildlife, wildflowers and grasses.
The Forum Café will be offering a range of homemade cakes, including gluten free and vegan options. They have freshly made scones which are available individually, or as part of a Clotted Cream or Savoury Tea. Their lunch menu offers a selection of jacket potatoes, sandwiches, baguettes or panini. They have homemade soup daily and our macaroni cheese is always on the menu. We offer a daily special. The café opens from 10.00am and although our last order for lunch is at 2.30pm, they are open until 3.30pm for tea, coffee and cake.
Accessibility
Brading Roman Villa is housed in a modern building that is designed for safe and easy access for people of all ages and mobility. The whole site and café are accessible by wheelchair and there is one available for use from the front desk. There are three dedicated disabled spaces in the main car park.
