Renowned for its world class sailing events, Cowes has so much to enjoy – and with a fascinating heritage for ship building too – there is plenty to enjoy during your stay.
Cowes hosts a number of world class sailing events, including the annual Cowes Week Regatta, and the Round the Island Race, offering plenty for people to enjoy during their time in Cowes.
Northwood Park, set within the grounds of Northwood House, offers an interesting place to visit – especially for those keen on photography or who want to just take a stroll around the grounds which sit above Cowes, overlooking the Town.
Built in the early nineteenth century, Northwood House is an early-Victorian Grade II listed house, regularly used for functions such as weddings and parties.
Cowes Maritime Museum, based at the Library near to the centre of the town – is a great place to visit, to find out more about Maritime Cowes from the past till the current day. The museum displays a selection of objects and images – telling tales from days gone by.
There are also a number of interesting Photo and Art galleries in Cowes, offering an interesting and varied way to spend your day.
The neighbouring town of East Cowes – situated just a short Chain Ferry journey across the River Medina, is famed for being the residence of Queen Victoria. Osborne is an ideal location to visit to learn more about Queen Victoria and Albert. Parts of the film Victoria and Abdul – to be released in 2017 – were filmed at the Osborne Estate during 2017. Osborne House is set within a beautifully landscaped garden, perfect for unwinding.
If you’re looking to learn more about East Cowes, it’s worth visiting the Heritage Centre – which will give you a good insight into the history of the town, from smugglers to Royalty and ship building.
The Classic Boat Museum in East Cowes is home to many sailing, adventure and early racing boats. If you’re a fan of sailing, or are keen on racing boats – the boat museum is the perfect place to spend a few hours – and you can also treat yourself to a tea or coffee.
