The Isle of Wight celebrates its highly reputed status as one of the top cycling destinations in the world. Not only are we home to some of the UK’s best scenery, we also have around 200 miles of cycle tracks, byways and bridleways for you to explore. Whether you’re a beginner or a regular cyclist, there are plenty of routes for you to try on the Isle of Wight.
The full Round the Island cycle route is popular with keen cyclists and covers 65 miles. There are a number of ways in which the route can be shortened or split over a few days if you prefer. It’s a hilly route, so be prepared!
We’ve got all you need to know about hiring a bike, storing and locking up your bike and how you can find cyclist-friendly accommodation. You will also discover which businesses have been awarded the ‘Wheel of Approval’ – showing that they go above and beyond in what they offer cyclists.
Our Round the Island cycle route covers 65 miles and is particularly popular with experienced cyclists. If you’d like a long ride with beautiful sea views, hill starts and country meanders, this route won’t disappoint.
Many family holidays include lots of bike rides and the Isle of Wight can provide that too. We have plenty of flat, safe areas for little legs to give cycling a go.
Even though stage eight of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain on the Isle of Wight was cancelled in 2022, you can still ride the route on Strava. If you don’t fancy taking on the full 150km, we have smaller sections of the route for you to try out too!
There are numerous exciting cycle trails to explore, so whether you’d like to try a route with a theme, a mix of terrain or something particularly challenging, we’ll have an idea for you.
The Isle of Wight is easy to access as a cyclist. Red Funnel, Wightlink and Hovertravel are able to carry bikes but please check booking requirements in advance. Bikes are also allowed onboard our trains, so if you’re travelling to Ryde you’ll be able to explore the east side of the Island directly from the Pier Head.
You can also explore the Island on two wheels with the Isle of Wight Slow Travel Guide; a series of routes and itineraries that show off the Island’s hidden places and locals’ favourites.
With its impressive UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status as well, the Isle of Wight really is the perfect setting for cyclists of all abilities. We look forward to seeing you here soon.
Discover accommodation that will go above and beyond in what they offer to cyclists, whether that’s safe storage for bikes, washing facilities, tool kits for riders to use or information of the best way to get there by bike!
