About
Small Hope Beach sits to the left of the main Shanklin seafront and backs onto a spectacular cliff face. Often overlooked in the Isle of Wight beach guides, this sandy beach is part of the “Bay Area” (which runs all the way from Shanklin to Yaverland) and is very popular with families as it is a great place for swimming and a variety of other activities.
The cliff side of the sea wall is lined with beach huts which can be hired, some of which are set back from the pathway and have their own garden areas. This beach is also serviced by the facilities along the Shanklin Esplanade where there are traditional amusements, and plenty of places to buy an ice cream or something more substantial to eat.
TOP TIP:
If you have kids this a great place for swimming as the gently sloping sands make it the ideal platform, plus the beach is usually quieter than the main beach along the main Shanklin Esplanade.
GETTING THERE:
The beach can be accessed from Shanklin Esplanade where there is a car park, and the coast path runs along the back of the beach and continues on towards Lake Beach further down.
